Sample Lesson from First Move's Award Winning DVD

We designed the First Move curriculum so that anyone, regardless of chess knowledge, can successfully implement the program.  Our teachers are surprised at how easy it is to use First Move.  “The Chess Lady” teaches lessons on our award winning DVD, classroom teachers then facilitate the activities.  The DVD includes immediate assessment with a question and answer series and even a bit of magic.  The DVD captures children’s minds and gets them excited about each new lesson.  The above video features the 2nd lesson in the curriculum. In the previous lesson, students learned about coordinates and how their use correlates to the chess board.

Since chess is played on squares, we call each of our topics a “square.”  There are 20 squares (topics) with a total of 30 lessons in the year one curriculum.  In year two there are 20 squares with a total of 24 lessons.  Our curriculum is expertly designed to be fun and engaging for all those involved.
